I did some more research played with some numbers and came up with a formula to change the quilt size.

It is the length that gets a bit tricky.
Using the standard 40 strip jelly roll you will get a quilt that is 50 x 64 without any additional border.
A jelly roll race quilt also known as a lasagna quilt is traditionally made with a bundle of pre cut strips.
Inches wide x number of rows 40 strip number of strips needed number of rows is your quilt height divided by the height of your jelly roll ex.
